Eight LIFEPAK® 1000 AED's Placed in Service

On November 11, 2006, eight LIFEPAK ® 1000 Defibrillators were placed in service.   The units were purchased with the assistance of the State of Maryland grant money sponsored by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS).   With this purchase, all of the Corps' vehicles are now equipped with this state-of-the-art, lifesaving technology.

The units feature a display screen that shows the operator a 3-lead ECG (Lead II) when used in the AED mode.  The unit may also be used by ALS providers as a 3-lead ECG monitor when used in the manual mode.

The units use Medtronic's ADAPTIV™ Biphasic Technology, where an adjusted voltage level shock is delivered based upon the individual patient's needs.  The internal programming may also be adjusted to accommodate specific CPR protocols.  Additionally, the data collected during use of the unit can be downloaded for further review or as an addition to the patient's medical report.

For further information regarding this advanced technology, visit Medtronic's LP1000 website at www.lifepak1000.com.

The Ambulance Corps thanks MIEMSS and the State of Maryland for the grant assistance to purchase these life-saving devices.

Ambulance Corps Takes Delivery of New 592

On September 18th, 2006, the Havre de Grace Ambulance offically placed in service a brand new, state-of-the-art 2006 Braun Chief XL.  This is Havre de Grace's second Braun Ambulance purchased from Keystone Emergency Vehicles headquartered in Dover, PA.  The unit features a custom paint and graphics package, all LED lighting, custom interior, 2 pull out drawers on front wall, auxillary Air Conditioning unit mounted to front of module, Weldon HID scene lights, and a GPS navigation system mounted in the cab.

The unit was primarily funded by the City of Havre de Grace and was officially dedicated to the City and it's citizens on Monday evening (September 18th) prior to the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting.

The unit features a dedication to the City as well as the official City seal on both sides of the unit.

On September 22, 2007, Chief Kane and President Hemler presented a check on behalf of the Ambulance Corps to the families of

Ashley Forton Ashley Forton      and    Willie Lee

at the Third Annual Forton-Lee Memorial Softball games.  The money will go towards a scholarship fund set up in their memory.  Pictured are:  Chief Kane and President Hemler, Mark and Cindy Forton (Ashley's parents), Shawn Forton (Ashley's brother), Kelly Slentz (best friend and chairperson), Matt Lee (brother of Willie) and Kennon and Mike Lee (Willie's parents).

This year, the Corps teamed up against the Susquehanna Hose Company, which resulted in a thrilling 6th inning shoot-out with the Corps leading 33-22 (thanks to the generous donations of spectators buying bases and homeruns to put them in the lead).  With the Susquehanna Hose Company batting last, the lead could not be sustained, as several Hose Company families and friends stepped up and purchased enough base hits and homeruns to give them the lead of 34-33, and ultimately the victory over the EMS Team.

Many thanks go out to the EMS Team and the Susquehanna Hose Company (as well as the Havre de Grace Police Department, the Harford County Sheriff’s Department, the students (past and present), faculty and S.M.I.L.E.S.) for participating in this worthwhile event, which raised over $10,000 for the Scholarship Fund.
